The Pre-Construction Estimating Training Course offered by Imperial Corporate Training Institute is a complete program for construction professionals that is designed to improve their expertise in estimating costs during the early stages of projects, as would assist them in making informed financial decisions when planning their projects. The primary goal of the course is to give construction professionals the knowledge and skills necessary to create sound estimates prior to the start of construction so that they can prepare budgets, participate in competitive bidding, and assess the feasibility of their projects correctly, thus providing them with better financial control over these projects and enabling them to bid competitively for work.

This training course offers detailed information on current best practices for estimating, such as: quantity takeoff, cost modelling, pre-bid analysis, and contractor pricing strategies. Participants will have the opportunity to learn how to analyse a set of plans, specifications, and contract documents to determine the probable costs of those plans and have them consistent with current market values. The course will have an integrated approach whereby both theoretical concepts and hands-on experience will be provided; therefore, the participant will leave with the experience and confidence to provide support for budget preparation, bidding and strategic planning during the pre-construction time frame.

Objectives

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Use blueprints, specs and digital means to obtain precise quantities from drawings.
  • Use a systematic approach to cost estimating to create the initial cost estimates for the project.
  • Evaluate the possibility of successful completion of a project by conducting a thorough analysis of value, risks, opportunities and the competitive environment prior to issuing the bid.
  • Establish accurate pricing approaches for contractors that are consistent with the project’s scope and market conditions.
  • Identify cost-sensitive areas within the bid documents and how those areas will impact the final pricing of the job.
  • Generate all of the information required to establish accurate labour, material and equipment cost estimates and all overhead costs necessary to successfully complete the project prior to bidding.
  • Verify the final project cost estimates for several types of projects are able to be consistently represented in the bidding process.
  • Assist in providing all of the requirements necessary for making informed decisions with the results of feasibility studies and bid completion.
