The Imperial Corporate Training Institute offers Steam Turbine and Centrifugal Compressor Integrity and Operations Training Course. The training course for steam turbine and centrifugal compressor maintenance and operations is intended to give participants detailed technical understanding and practical knowledge of the critical rotating machinery in the Oil and Gas, Petrochemical, Power Generation and Process industries. As part of the continuing production process, both types of machinery provide energy efficiency and operational safety. If there are operational failures or inefficiencies with these types of assets, there can be an extensive impact on the cost of downtime to production, safety incidents and reduced overall plant performance. The focus of this training course is to develop a high level of competency in the main areas of integrity, operational excellence and lifecycle management of high value machinery.

The course will combine engineering principles with both real world operational practices in order for participants to understand how these machines will behave, their limits of performance and the mechanisms that lead to their failure. The training will place emphasis on machine reliability, the use of condition monitoring, the development of maintenance strategies and best operational practices that support long-term asset integrity. Participants will have structured knowledge of how rotating machines will function in the various operational modes and how they can optimise performance while minimising risk. The current modern diagnostic techniques that can be used to inspect machines and improve their reliability, availability and overall effectiveness will also be discussed in detail during this training.

Objectives

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Learn the operating principles of steam turbines and centrifugal compressors.
  • Evaluate the various designs and characteristics of different types of major rotating equipment.
  • Demonstrate best practices to improve machinery reliability and maintain asset integrity.
  • Become familiar with the different failure modes associated with steam turbine and compressor applications and the possible root causes for these failures.
  • Examine the various operational variables affecting the efficiency, reliability and safety of these rotating machines.
  • Invite development of standardised monitoring/diagnostic tools for those rotating machines.
  • Provide collaboration for enhanced Critical Asset Management and Maintenance Planning on all critical assets.
  • Learn to read Vibration; Lubrication; and Performance Data for the purposes of developing Condition Based Maintenance Plans.
  • Incorporate International Standards and Industry Best Practices into all equipment Operations.
  • Increase plant reliability and reduce Unplanned Outage events through improvement in Equipment Integrity.

Target Audience

This training course is suitable for professionals involved in the operation, maintenance, and management of rotating equipment, including:

  • Mechanical engineers working in oil and gas facilities
  • Maintenance and reliability engineers
  • Operations engineers and supervisors
  • Asset integrity and inspection engineers
